What Works for Me Wednesday

Over at Shannon's, she is hosting a "What works for me Wednesday: Backwards Edition," which allows me to ask you all questions and expect answers (and they better be good ::insert fist shake::).

So my question to you internets is this:

Do you have any good punch/drink recipes (of the alcoholic variety--or can be made to be so)?

I am hosting a party with a bunch of people (guys and girls) and while we will have beer, I wanted to keep costs lower by having one type of liquor drinks.

I would love any suggestions!

It may not qualify as punch per se, but I have a recipe for Special Lemonade that is always a hit when I make it.

2 medium lemons
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 cups milk
3 cups chilled club soda

Remove lemon peels and set aside
Quarter lemons and squeeze juice into bowl.
Remove and discard white membrane (it is bitter)
Pulse peel and pulp in food processor or blender until coarsely chopped
Add peel mixture and sugar to lemon juice.
Mix well and let stand 30 min.
Stir in milk.
Strain lemon mixture and add club soda.
Serve immediately in sugar rimmed glasses. (if you want)

Hope you get lots of ideas. I will be checking back to see what other have to offer too!

Have fun at your party. :)

1 frozen container of strawberried
1 pint of mixed fruit sherbert (the one with mango is great)
1 2 liter bottle of ginerale

Mix and serve. The fruit makes it so pretty.

Another is a family recipe.Every Thanksgiving my family goes to my cousin’s, Johnny & Glenda’s house,. They live in Glencoe, Alabama, which is just between Gadsden and Anniston. We have so much fun there in the country. I am sure that I have shared with many of you the festivities of the day: The Turkey toss competition in the front yard, Dirty Santa, hayrides, walking along the quarry at the base of the mountain, and of course-the eating-on that day it is considered a sport. When everyone arrives, there is always a table of appetizers and a big bowl of Glenda’s Punch. It is so addictive.

Glenda’s Party Punch

1 can pineapple juice
2 T citric acid
1 can Orange juice
1-2 liter Sprite
1 gallon Water Food coloring (optional)
5 C sugar

Pour into a large container or plastic jug and freeze. To serve, add sprite and thaw until slushy. Serve.

I'm not sure what kind of food you are serving - or if you are even serving food - but I love this Peach Rum Punch from Sandra Lee - it's pretty sweet!
Peach Rum Punch:
2 cups frozen peaches
2 cups lemon-flavored rum (recommended: Bacardi Limon)
3 cups peach nectar (recommended: Kerns)
1 cup pineapple juice
1 cup ginger ale

Chill all ingredients.
Combine all ingredients in a punch bowl, adding ginger ale last.

Serve cold.

The beauty of Troll Punch is that you can use inexpensive booze and make it WAY ahead of time.

TROLL PUNCH

Ingredients
2 liters bourbon
1/2 liter dark rum
1 1/4 cups sugar
7 cups strong-brewed tea
3 1/2 cups fresh lemon juice or 4 (7.5-ounce) bottles frozen lemon juice, thawed
2 quarts orange juice

Preparation
Stir together all ingredients in a large crock or food-safe container. Cover mixture, and chill up to 3 days before serving.
Note: For strong-brewed tea, pour 5 cups boiling water over 2 family-size tea bags; cover and steep 5 minutes. Remove tea bags from water, squeezing gently. Add 2 cups cold water.

Yield
Makes 32 cups

Drinking costs can be kept low by feeding them.

Cheese, filled eggs.

It's better than cheap booze, because they'll know by the headache the next day.

Cosmos make "pretty" drinks. Here's my recipe:

2 ounces Raspberry/Cranberry Juice
2 ounces Lime juice
2 ounces Vodka
1 ounce Triple Sec
1 ounce Simple Sugar (equal parts sugar and water, heated to dissolve the sugar, then cooled for use)

Shaken, not stirred ;).
